6 Ways to Get Clear, Glowing Skin—Naturally

January 19, 2013 LYT By:

We are thrilled to announce our dear friend and LYTnyc client, Britta Aragon, as our guest blogger on clearing skin naturally. Britta is a cancer survivor and has been a LYTnyc client since 2007. As the Founder of CV Skinlabs and a ground-breaking expert in the safe cosmetics industry, she shares her experience with colon hydrotherapy in her testimonial video and the following six essential tips!

Are you looking for ways to get clear skin naturally, without having to resort to harsh, chemical products? Give the following tips a try, and see if you don’t notice clearer, more glowing skin within a few weeks.

1. Colonics for Clear Skin

Chemical-free skin care may include natural products that you trust, but sometimes you have to think beyond your skin. For instance, are you feeling bloated, constipated, or nauseated? If so, your system may be overloaded with toxins. In fact, acne eruptions are often a sign that your body is trying to eliminate excess waste products.

I get a colonic in NYC at LYT every three weeks. This not only helps me feel refreshed and energized, but helps take the burden off my skin. Cleanse the body of toxins, and you make it much easier to clear skin naturally and for your skin to maintain a glowing appearance.

2. Treat Dry Skin

Skin is usually dryer in the winter, which can make acne worse. Dry skin weakens the skin’s natural barrier, which causes the immune system to try to repair the damage. Unfortunately, that means inflammation, which encourages acne. A weakened barrier also allows bacteria and chemicals to more easily penetrate the skin.

To moisturize, avoid drying soaps and chemical cleansers, hot water, and chemical irritants; invest in chemical-free skin care products; use a humidifier in your bedroom; and try natural oils like grapeseed, lavender, chamomile, and rosemary which are great for oily or acne prone skin. My favorites are the Pure Facial Moisture Balancing Oil from Suki and CV Skinlabs Body Repair Lotion.

3. Eat Raw As Much as Possible

Not only does eating raw food help cleanse your system and hydrate your skin, raw food is especially important to maintain during the winter.

The skin is an organ that is responsible for managing several functions such as protecting you from the elements, trying to hold onto water, regulating body temperature, and getting rid of toxins. A raw food diet supports all of these functions, and makes it easier for skin to repair itself. Raw food also helps the skin protect itself from free radicals, cutting down on hyper-pigmentation and acne outbreaks. Finally, eating raw can help loosen waste and assist your purpose of getting colonics for clear skin even more effective!

4. Eat More Acne-Fighting Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Consuming foods that tame inflammation can help reduce acne outbreaks. Try green tea, berries, kelp, wild-caught salmon, shiitake mushrooms, avocado, flax, papaya, broccoli, extra virgin olive oil, and sweet potatoes to help clear skin naturally.

Meanwhile, stay away from inflammatory foods like fast foods, refined foods (white flower, white sugar), processed meats, junk food, and especially dairy products. Also, stay away from high glycemic foods that spike your blood sugar, which causes your body to release more insulin. Spiked insulin levels increase the body’s inflammatory reactions, which can increase acne breakouts.

Finally, counteract inflammation in the body and in the skin and clear skin naturally by adding anti-inflammatory spices to your food like turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and rosemary.

5. Try Zinc

Did you know that zinc is found in high levels in the skin? Yet according to a 2007 study, zinc is one of the most common mineral deficiencies. The same study found that people with acne were more likely to have low levels of zinc than those who didn’t have acne. Try supplementing with zinc to clear skin naturally—about 400-600 mcg daily.

You can also try upping your intake of zinc-containing foods like almonds, walnuts, pecans, oatmeal, and dark chocolate.

6. Drink Water with Lemon First Thing Every Day

Water helps flush the toxins out of your body, which can relieve your skin of waste products that tend to encourage acne breakouts. Adding fresh squeezed lemon is a great chemical-free skin care tip that gives your skin some extra fighting power by fighting off bacteria and accelerating healing. Lemons are also rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the skin from pollution and other sources of free radical damage.

Natural Indigestion Remedies for Acid Reflux Sufferers (1/10 Americans!)

September 20, 2012 LYT By:

Does your painful acid reflux and stash of antacids have you wishing that you had a natural indigestion remedy?  You’re not alone.  Americans spend over 3 billion dollars a year on over-the-counter antacids.  The good news is that there are natural acid reflux remedies that will have you throwing out your “plop-plop, fizz-fizz” Alka-Seltzer and painlessly enjoying your meals again.

Like all symptoms, indigestion is a call for help.  It is your body’s way of signaling to you that your digestive tract is compromised and needs some relief, repair and rebalancing.  While antacids and pain-relief medications can hide the pain, the real call-to-action is to solve the problem with natural indigestion remedies.

NATURAL INDIGESTION REMEDIES: Foods That Help Acid Reflux, and More

  • Increase living foods and food combine – Living foods supply the key enzymes we need to break down our meals, while food combining ensures quick digestion and keeps the digestive tract moving.
  • Reduce processed foods – Processed foods are void of nutrients and place a big burden on our digestive tracts.
  • Eat smaller portions and take more time – American culture has us eating huge amounts and usually on the run.  Taking time to chew your food, and being mindful of smaller portions gives the body the necessary relief it needs to digest thoroughly.
  • Reduce over-the-counter medications – Unlike gentle, natural acid reflux remedies, meds like antacids, aspirin, and cold medications add toxic burden to our digestive system. They can prevent vitamin absorption and create an unnatural acidic environment that breeds disease.
  • Avoid inflammatory foods – Foods & beverages like alcohol, coffee, sugar, dairy, white breads and pastas are some of the worst culprits of inflammation and digestive imbalance.
  • Increase probiotics – A good quality probiotic will seed the gut with healthy bacteria that increases the body’s strength, immunity and balance – the body’s best, most natural indigestion remedy!
  • Relax – Diet will take you as far as your emotional health will allow.  How much you hold onto stress, fear, control, and anger will determine your body’s ability to relax, repair and create total health.

Acid reflux is a wake up call and a great opportunity to rebalance the body.  At LYT NYC, our experience tells us that one of the quickest ways to reboot is through colon hydrotherapyCleaning out the built-up toxicity in our guts is a foundation for total balance.  Add any of the the natural acid reflux remedies above to your colon hydrotherapy protocol and you’ll fall in love with a whole new level of health.

Back to School: Clear Your Head By Clearing Your Body

September 12, 2012 LYT By:

If going back to school has you enrolled in your health this season, then we’ve got your two-step syllabus to getting a 4.0 in “Healthy Brain Food 101!” School is officially in session and with a clear body leading to a clear head, your overall GPA has no place to go but up, up, up. Today’s lesson: including healthy brain food and colonics in your lifestyle can make going “back to school” a real cinch!

The first step to a clear and sharp brain is to flood our cells with the life generating energy of fresh green juices and raw foods. These alkaline substances rehydrate the old waste that’s built up, especially following a summer of pool parties and vacations. Their abundance of electrolytes helps extract the sticky residue and put it in line for elimination, while their nutrients act as a natural energy-booster.

The next step is to more thoroughly cleanse the body using colon hydrotherapy. Are you aware of the many benefits of LYT’s colonics in NYC? Cleaning the colon is one of the most effective ways to clear and balance the brain. In fact, there is a neurological connection between the digestive tract and the brain that is linking mental imbalances to physical imbalances. This web of neurons around the digestive tract is so complex that scientists are calling it “the second brain.” Research is showing connections between ailments of the brain and symptoms of the body such as anxiety and depression in conjunction with irritable bowel syndrome and ulcers.

The health of our digestive tract directly affects the health of our brains and our moods. A clean and clear colon means a clean and clear head. Not to mention some of the additional benefits of colonics that will have you more than “Back to School” ready:

  • Improved Immunity
  • Clearer Skin
  • Improved Digestion
  • Reduced Allergies
  • Reduced Inflammation
  • Increased Energy
  • Improved Sleep

“Back to School” means getting “back on track.” It’s a great time to re-evaluate our lifestyle and begin using healthy brain food and the benefits of colonics to leave us New Yorkers feeling bright, clear and vibrant from the inside out.
