I began my career as a social worker, first working with pregnant teens in Chicago then at a drug treatment center in New York City. I have always been interested in helping people to overcome challenges and transform their lives. Though I still greatly value my social work education and all of the knowledge it has given me, my life and my approach to healing changed nine years ago, after I gave birth to my daughter. At that time, I developed vague, debilitating health problems. I began a frustrating journey through the conventional medical system, seeing one specialist after another. None of them had answers for me. They said they could not treat me until they could diagnose me. But no one could diagnose me! I started to seek answers for myself. Eventually, I came to LYT in 2007 as a client. I knew I had found a special place. It made such an impression on me that I applied for the open reception position after my very first visit. And I've been here ever since, learning and embracing a new approach to health. As I committed myself to this new way of life, becoming a colon therapist felt like a natural progression.

One of the big lessons I learned is how much control I have over my own health by the choices I make. In my twenties I lived on coffee and sugar. I had no idea how my lifestyle was affecting my health. As I began to learn and experience how different choices could transform my health, I was amazed. I started to drink green vegetable juice and eat more salads. However, I soon realized the old habits did not retreat easily. In my previous work I had helped clients struggling with drug addiction. Once I started to work with my own habits, I became aware of the more subtle aspects of addiction. I began to notice how I was using comfort foods to deal with stress. I wanted to feel less bound by old habits and to find the freedom to make life-affirming choices that would nourish my health.

My search for freedom has led me to explore the connection between mind and body and some of the practices that are dedicated to working with our awareness and our mind's potential. To cultivate my own inner awareness I have studied yoga, meditation, biofeedback, breathing practices, hypnosis and somatic psychology. All of these practices and disciplines inform my approach as a colon therapist. I have come to realize that making any small change has reverberations throughout the whole body. For example, when we change our eating habits we also tap into how we nourish ourselves on other levels, emotionally as well as physically. And when we cleanse the body of waste with a colonic, it also offers us the opportunity to release old, out-dated habits that no longer serve us.

My experience of healing has had an impact on how I help others. For me, healing involves finding a balance between seeking out information from others and turning inward to bring awareness to one's own needs. Because each one of us is unique, our roads to optimal health and vitality will also be unique. I love working with people as they bring awareness to their own process and move towards greater health and freedom of choice. I am honored to be able to work here at LYT.
